Amethyst: Cyberspace has Detrimental Outcomes in Reality

Updated: Nov 5, 2018

Hackers pose a threat to everyone in the United States. In addition, everyone is at risk of being hacked.

“The odds of not getting got in an information smash and grab, a hack, a compromise or the next unthinkable thing that spins our heads will forever not be in your favor,” according to Adam Levin.

During his visit to the University of Georgia on Thursday, September 13, 2018, Levin spent time discussing the dangers of cyberspace with Grady college students. The world wide web acts as a collective host for data. It comes to no surprise that the internet has changed millions of lives forever.

Technology has impacted and advanced modern-day society. In fact, it is possible that too much information is accessible to others and could get into the wrong hands. Hackers have the ability to compromise anything and everyone.

“The United States still has no national breech notification laws, which is insane,” said Levin.

Meanwhile, other countries have taken steps to avoid their probability of being hacked. Privacy matters to all people. The United States is making efforts but it’s a strong chance that many of us are already victims of stolen information by hackers.

“No one person is uninteresting to hackers. To them, you are Kim Kardashian”, said Levin.

Hackers can hijack personal information, business materials, and government knowledge. We live in a day in age where our information can even be stolen by making purchases at Target shopping stores. No one is too safe when it comes to not exposing their sensitive information.

“We are where we are because of bad cyber hygiene,” said Levin.

Americans exercise their freedom without thoughts of limitation. However, regulations are created with the intent for prevention and protection. Having specific laws in place related to the world wide web and the spread of private information can be valuable when it comes to the inevitable attack that people encounter daily. Hackers come in all shapes and sizes. There is no individual type of hacker profile look. The best thing people can do is be cautious of what they click on the internet and do not expose one’s computer to virus- like activity. Be aware that the world wide web is two-sided.
